The Support of the Missionary

BELIEVERS BIBLE STUDY
STEWARDS OF THE MYSTERIES OF GOD
The Support of the Missionary
Scripture Reading LUKE 9:1-9.
BY PAUL B THOMAS

PROPOSITION: The churches role indeed every believers role is to support the ministry of the missionary and the mission of Jesus in the earth today. The Missionary has an important role in God’s harvest. Consider these scriptures in evidence of his support and venture in this mission.

Scripture: (Luke 9:1) Then Jesus called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and power to cure diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. “Take nothing for the journey,” He told them, “no staff, no bag, no bread, no money,b no second tunic.

Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that area. If anyone does not welcome you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that town, as a testimony against them.” So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere. (BSB)

1. Jesus sends us on a Global Mission. Go into all the word and preach the gospel (Mark 16:15).

2. The Mission is simple yet the cost is great.
He told them: “Take nothing for the journey–no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt(Luke 9:3 NIV).

3.How has the Lord declared that the ministry be sustained?
Tithes and offerings (Mal 3:8).

4. We are to help them in their Journey.
Whenever I journey to Spain I shall come to you for I hope to see you only journey and to be helped only way there by you, of first I may enjoy your company for a while (Acts 15:24 NKJV).

5.The hospitality of the missionary
A
nd it may be that I will remain or even spend the winter with you, that you may send me on my journey wherever I go (1Cor 15:6 NKJV).

6. The believer can send them gifts after their departure
No church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only, for even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities (Phil 4:15,16).Use hospitality one to another without grudging As ever man has received the gift even so minister the same one to another (1 Peter 4:9) …distributing to the necessity of the saints; given to hospitality (Romans 12:10-13).

7.God’s promise to the sower.
Th
ey that sow in tears shall reap in joy he that goeth forth reaping, bearing precious seed shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing his sheaves with him (Psalm 126:5,6).

8. Pray for labourers
The harvest is great the labourers are few pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into the harvest (Luke 10:2).

NOTES

A true missionary does the Works of Jesus, preaches the gospel of Jesus and teaches the Principles and Words of Jesus.
A missionary is someone who does the works of an apostle. The Apostle Paul was a missionary yet he was a preacher and a teacher too. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, (1 Timothy 1;1).Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Romans 1:11). A missionary is a servant of Jesus Christ first! and he is separated to the preaching of the gospel! His main line of work.

The Call to go into all the world and preach the gospel is as important today as it was when Jesus first commanded it. He equipped them and ordained them. ‘I send you forth..’ It was his sending they were his choosing. ‘‘Behold I give unto you power’’ (Luke10;19). ‘‘And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.” (Mark 16:17-19).

Forsake all and take nothing with you, Jesus said. If you can take nothing and loose yourself for the sake of the Lord you know you are called. for first the call demands a self denial. a denial to the right to live life just how you want it. of course when we follow the Lord he gives back to us a multiplied life, full of purpose and adventure. and it is in him we find fulfilment and the joy of serving the Lord.

For further Study:

Questions to Consider: 1.List five important reasons why we should send forth missionaries today? 2.Years age the altar call as for missionaries why don’t we see this today? 3. What are the financial considerations a missionary encounters?
